Are emotion and reason separate entities?

They had lost their freedom. Pharaoh was trying to kill them off as a people allowing the women to live but working the men to death and killing all the male children. God heard them morning the loss of their children, the loss of their husbands and the loss of their sons. Its the kind of groan you make when someone you love is killed and justice is denied you and you are powerless to stop it.
