Yes! You overreacted. You shouldn't be worried about that. He was probably saying that you had a good tan. People say that about caucasians at my school. When someone has a really good tan, they say "Wow! You look Mexican!", so, I'm sure he was just saying that you have a good tan. Hope this helps you. God bless.
