Would you consider this child abuse?

Im a 75 yo male with a 53 year old son. (I also have 2 daughters approximately 2 years older and 2 years younger than my son). I raised my children in a time when , etc was acceptable, not like today. The problem is this: to this day, my son has relationship difficulties but not so severe that he cannot work ,as he did acheive a college degree. He refuses to speak to me ,my wife, his sisters nor any of his nephews. He says that the reason he doesn't want to be part of this family any longer is that none of us will acknowledge these things he claims happened to him and apologize for them. I used to lose my temper quite often back then and used name calling and hitting to discipline him. He says I used to call him Adolf Hitler when he got too loud and rambunxious, Mary Jane when he would cry after I hit him. He claims these events took place mainly between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. Also, his sisters "tormented " him with names like "grhopper", skinny balink" "queer bait". We all feel the same, that he should just get over it already. And personally, I don't think what I did constitutes child abuse. Would love to hear from the community.
