Why is everyone beating up on ethanol when the Fed Gvt pays farmers not to grow crops in the form of subsidies

High food prices are blamed on ethanol because the corn that is grown to produce ethanol is taken out of the food supply. Consistent food demand, lower food supply, prices go up. Why not increase the supply by eliminating Federal Subsidies that allow or require farmers not to grow certain crops?
