Can somebody help me with sound drivers?

yes, i have a presario c300 notebook and windows xp home edition, i ran disk clean up and somthing happened with the sound drivers, theres absolutly no way to get sound or even put sound icon in my tool bar, and please dont answer by saying to check the box for the sound icon tool bar the probelem is bigger than that, i alread have downloaded a sound driver, my computer says the model is Conexant High Definition Audio, and the driver is "chdaud.sys"? thats whats listed in help and support as installed harware. please if anyone knows if there is a new driver i can download that will work i'd greatly apreciate it also, i tried to send it back to a restore point that didnt work and i tryed unistalling and redownloading the driver. nothing seems to work does anyone know of an alternitave driver?
