Does anyone feel like explaining to me: "Why is there a dichotomy between Creation and Evolution"?

Evolution and the literal creation story of the bible rule out each other, obviously. If you think of creation as a more abstract idea, it might be reconcilable with evolution. But even so, the idea of a creator is at least redundant. Evolution works perfectly without a creator, so why invent one?
